Got Mold? Home Mold Test Myth

Today we’re talking about whether to use the plates, the mold test plates that you can get at any hardware store. And my answer is, you can but I don’t think you can trust them fully. So, if you get a positive test meaning there was some findings, trust it. But if you get a negative test, I wouldn’t trust it. The problem is the toxic molds, black mold or Stachybotrys, or Chaetomium or Chaetomium depending on which side of the country you are on, those molds are sticky and gooey and they don’t aerate very well. And they also happen to be the most toxic molds because they secrete the most deadly gases through the drywall, through the insulation into your living space. So if you are relying on one of those plates where you just take the top off and you leave it in the air for 48 hours or whatever and then you put the top back in and send it in, I’m not a fan of those as a very reliable test for toxic mold in your home.
