Dr. Jill’s Commentary
From Dr. Jill’s book, A Light in the Dark for PANDAS & PANS:

“Propolis is created by honeybees to protect their beehives from microbial invasion. It’s called a bactericide, which means it not only stops bacteria from replicating (as with most antibiotic medications), but it actually kills on contact.

Propolis is one of my favorites in the throat as well as the nose. It has a strong antibiotic and antiviral action. Propolis does the heavy lifting to protect the hive. Propolis is combined with antimicrobial drugs to reduce drug resistance.

But one thing to know is that it also has a pungent flavor on the tongue that we don’t get with nasal treatments. That’s why we give it as a throat spray rather than a gargle.

I’ve seen propolis-containing throat sprays stop a sore throat on contact. Instantly. No joke. In my family, everyone keeps a bottle around, just in case.

Herbs can be used in throat sprays as well.”

The reliable antimicrobials Astragalus and Echinacea are added to assist Propolis, while Slippery Elm soothes.

This can be used preventively in case of exposure to infection, or to speed healing time while reducing inflammation and discomfort.
