Mold Intensive Course For Medical Practitioners

Release Date: 9/10/2025
Expiration Date: 12/31/2026

Activity Overview
This activity introduces clinicians to the fundamental science and clinical recognition of mold and mycotoxin illness. Topics include immune suppression and mast cell activation, specific mechanisms of common mycotoxins, strengths and limitations of current laboratory assessments, and the application of a therapeutic order to guide individualized treatment. Participants will gain a structured foundation to identify, assess, and manage patients affected by toxic mold exposure.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for an audience of physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals interested in recognizing, assessing, and treating mold and mycotoxin-related illness.

Learning Objectives

Immune Impacts of Mold Spores and Spore Fragments
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the mechanisms by which mold and mycotoxin exposure impact immune function.
  • Analyze specific patterns of immune depletion with common symptom presentations in mold-related illness.
  • Identify potential therapeutic targets based on the type and extent of immune impairment observed.

Mold Mycotoxins and Specific Mechanisms
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the mechanisms of action of mycotoxins associated with water-damaged buildings.
  • Differentiate the structural and biosynthetic diversity among common mycotoxins and the implications for health effects.
  • Compare variations in mycotoxin mechanisms to the diversity of symptom patterns among patients.

Mold and Mycotoxin Assessment
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply a clinical questionnaire and targeted physical exam to improve identification of mold-related illness.
  • Select appropriate testing methods based on patient presentation and available laboratory options.
  • Implement strategies to overcome known limitations of current mold and mycotoxin assessment tools.

Treatment of Mold and Mycotoxins
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Outline a therapeutic order for the treatment of toxic indoor mold exposure.
  • Incorporate mold and mycotoxin avoidance strategies into patient care, including environmental, dietary, and supplement considerations.
  • Evaluate the rationale for both systemic and intranasal antifungal therapies in mold-related illness.
  • Apply strategies to protect the microbiome, detoxification organs, and immune system during treatment.
  • Discuss the role of biofilm in chronic illness and recovery.
